Chicken Fried Steak

Ingredients:

4 cube steaks

1.5 cups flour

1.5 cups buttermilk

2 eggs

2 tsp salt

2 tsp pepper

1/2 tsp Garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp baking powder

1 cup vegetable oil


Gravy:

4 tsp leftover grease

4 tsp flour

1/2 cup heavy cream

2-3 cups whole milk

Salt & pepper


 
  1. Combine the flour and seasonings in a shallow bowl.

  2. In a separate shallow bowl, whisk together eggs & buttermilk.

  3. Pat your cube steaks dry with paper towels. Dip both sides of the steaks in the flour mixture, then the egg mixture, then the flour mixture again.

  4. Set the steaks on a sheet pan and press excess flour into the steaks & ensure they are fully covered.

  5. Preheat oven to 250°.

  6. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

  7. Once oil is hot enough, add 2 steaks to the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.

  8. Remove steaks from pan, add back to sheet pan and put in preheated oven until all steaks are cooked and gravy is done.

Gravy -

  1. Save 4 tbsp of grease from your skillet pan.

  2. Turn your stove down to medium heat then combine that grease and flour in pan & whisk for 2-3 minutes.

  3. Add cream & milk to pan & whisk to combine. Bring gravy to a simmer, add salt & pepper.

  4. Remove steaks from oven, drizzle with gravy & enjoy!
