This is my husband’s grandma Ginny’s classic BBQ recipe, a family favorite for years. It has that comforting, sweet-and-tangy flavor that everyone loves. Perfect for making ahead, serving to a crowd, or enjoying as leftovers that are even better the next day.
Servings: 8–10
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
2 ½ lbs ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 (10.5 oz) can tomato soup
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
3 teaspoons yellow mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions:
In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
Reduce heat to low and stir in the tomato soup, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and mustard. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir until everything is well combined.
Cover and let the mixture simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and heated through.

Tip:
This is one of those recipes that gets even better with time. If you can, make it a day ahead and refrigerate overnight. The flavors really come together and taste even better the next day.
Stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce for a richer, savory flavor.
Freezer Instructions:
To freeze, let the mixture cool completely, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. Freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to use, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and reheat on the stove over low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
